The Grand Ducal Burial Vault is the purpose-built mausoleum of the Grand Dukes and Duchesses of Russia in the Peter and Paul Fortress. The Neo-Baroque domed structure is frequently mistaken for a part of the Peter and Paul Cathedral due to architectural similarities. A covered passageway leads from the mausoleum to the cathedral, where the Russian emperors and empresses are buried.

Princess Alexandra of Saxe-Altenburg. Grand Duke Vyacheslav Konstantinovich of Russia, (13 July 1862 – 27 February 1879), was a Romanov grand duke and the youngest son of Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolayevich of Russia and his wife Princess Alexandra of Saxe-Altenburg. The English form of his first name is Wenceslas.
Military career. Gustav Wilhelm was born in Ludwigslust on 31 January 1781, the second surviving son of Frederick Francis, Hereditary Prince of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, later Grand Duke, and Princess Louise of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg . In 1807, the ducal family went into exile in Altona during the Napoleonic Wars.
She was buried in the Ducal Mausoleum in the Churchyard of St. Gertrude (St. Gertrudenkirchhof / Gertrudenfriedhof) in the city of Oldenburg. Her sister Amalia Maria Charlotta was also buried there. Grand Duke of Hesse. In 1892, Ernest Louis succeeded his father as grand duke. Throughout his life, Ernest Louis was a patron of the arts, founding the Darmstadt Artists' Colony, and was himself an author of poems, plays, essays, and piano compositions. Ernest Louis commissioned the New Mausoleum in 1903.
