Founded by Viennese actor/director Herbert Berghof in 1945, HB Studio is one of the original New York acting studios, providing training and practice in the performing arts. We are a nonprofit organization that supports vigorous, lifelong practice in the theater, based on a solid foundation of practical training.

New to HB Studio? Acting auditions are held online over Zoom before a panel of faculty who assess each actor’s skills and make the best placement within HB Studio’s progression of offerings. You will then be invited to choose from a menu of classes at the level you’ve been assigned.
The HB Studio (Herbert Berghof Studio) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization offering professional training in the performing arts through classes, workshops, free lectures, theater productions, theater rentals, a theater artist residency program, as well as full-time study through their International Student Program and Uta Hagen Institute.
