With HANNAH TAKES THE STAIRS, despite initial fears and hesitations, or perhaps because of them, many people whom I love and admire were willing to put their busy lives on hold for days and weeks to gather in Chicago and sleep on the floor with me in a rented apartment and make a movie. We shared ideas, fears, loves, successes and failures.
I don't want to dismiss the whole genre of "mumblecore" as a desolate film movement that only contains self-indulgent films about affluent upper-middle-class people and their non-issues told with the absence of film style but that is pretty much what Hannah Takes the Stairs is.
