2 giorni fa · Hans Baldung, who was called Grien, was one of the leading German painters of the early 16th century. He is known for his portraits and secular cabinet pictures as well as for his altarpieces. He was probably trained by Dürer, and was also an accomplished draughtsman and printmaker.

A masterpiece of German chiaroscuro, this woodcut is one of Hans Baldung Grien's best known prints, produced soon after his move to Strasbourg from Nuremberg, where he had worked as a journeyman with Albrecht Dürer from about 1503 to 1507.
