Il film è una sorta di lavoro a 2 Mackenzie/Sheridan. L'impronta dello sceneggiatore è molrto forte: anche Hell or high water si inserisce nel disvelamento filmico delle periferie americane (come lo era stato Sicario prima e in parte Soldado poi) ma anche del successivo Wind River. Siamo in un Texas di roulotte, povertà, piccoli espedienti.
