Il primogenito di questi, Henry, fu giustiziato dai partigiani degli York nel 1464, ma il secondogenito Edmund continuò a chiamarsi duca di S. fino alla morte (1471). Con lui si estingue la linea dei Beaufort. Il titolo rinacque con Enrico VII che lo conferì al figlio Henry, poi con Enrico VIII che lo diede al figlio illegittimo Henry Fitzroy.
This is the only surviving portrait of Fitzroy, and was probably painted at the time of his marriage to a daughter of the Duke of Norfolk. It shows Fitzroy in a strikingly informal pose, wearing an open-necked shirt and an embroidered cap.
Henry Fitzroy was the favoured illegitimate son of Henry VIII. Instead of depicting Fitzroy as a confident, wealthy and quasiroyal youth, this intimate portrait shows him in a state of undress, wearing a nightcap and shirt. Henry FitzRoy, Duke of Richmond and Somerset (c. 15 June 1519 – 23 July 1536) was the son of Henry VIII of England and his mistress Elizabeth Blount, and the only child born out of wedlock whom Henry acknowledged. He was the younger half-brother of Mary I, as well as the older half-brother of Elizabeth I and Edward VI.
