17 mar 2024 · Heinrich III. "the rich" of Hesse (born 15 October 1440– 13 January 1483 in Marburg, Germany) was Landgrave of upper Hesse at Marburg from 1458. Heinrich was the second son of Landgrave Ludwig I of Hesse and his wife Anna of Saxony.

In the 24 years (1234–58) during which he had effective control of the government, he displayed such indifference to tradition that the barons finally forced him to agree to a series of major reforms, the Provisions of Oxford (1258).

A commission was swiftly created to seek out Anabaptists. Henry personally presided at the trial of John Lambert in November 1538 for denying the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
