Henry Robertson Bowers (29 July 1883 – c. 29 March 1912) was one of Robert Falcon Scott's polar party on the ill-fated Terra Nova expedition of 1910–1913, all of whom died during their return from the South Pole.

1 mar 2012 · Henry Robertson Bowers was one of the five members of Captain Robert Falcon Scott's Polar party, who made an heroic attempt to be the first to reach the South Pole in March 1912. Scott had come to rely on Bowers' meticulous planning, physical toughness and dauntless spirit.
Born in Greenock in 1883, Henry 'Birdie' Bowers was a popular member of the 'Terra Nova' expedition. Standing at only 5'4, he was a strong, robust, straightforward character and at the same time possessed a deep spirituality.

Captain Robert Falcon Scott, Dr Edward Adrian Wilson and Lieutenant Henry Robertson Bowers marched on, but on 20 March 1912 they were stopped in their tracks by a dreadful blizzard. On 29 March 1912 Captain Scott wrote his last diary entry.
Henry Robertson Bowers, born in Greenock, western Scotland, was serving in the Royal Indian Marine Service before he joined Scott’s expedition. Initially Scott was unimpressed by him, but he soon came to value Bowers’ capacity for hard work, organisation and general cheerfulness.
