Sicuramente "Hi, mom" è molto ancorato ai tempi in cui fu girato ed il tempo passato pesa inesorabilmente su di esso; un prodotto "underground" ben diverso da quanto De Palma ci regalerà in futuro, anche se già si diverte a provare soluzioni stilistiche particolari.

Rubin, reduce dal Vietnam, si stabilisce a New York e vuole realizzare un film-verità riprendendo di nascosto ciò che avviene nel palazzo di fronte. Finale dinamitardo. Seguito ideale di Ciao America (1968), questo bizzarro dramma satirico è, nel suo stravagante anticonformismo, un film non riuscito, ma non privo di intelligenti invenzioni come antologia di pratiche voyeuristiche.
