Tommy Dorsey (1905-1956) was one of the key leaders of the “big band era” of American popular music. The Glenn Miller Collections of the American Music Research Center at the University of Colorado Boulder houses the premier collection of Dorsey recordings, papers, and images.
Sinatra made eighty recordings from 1940 to 1942 with the Dorsey band. Two of those eighty songs are " In the Blue of Evening " [20] and " This Love of Mine ". [22] Sinatra achieved his first great success as a vocalist in the Dorsey band and claimed he learned breath control from watching Dorsey play trombone. [13]

Tommy Dorsey. Thomas Francis Dorsey Jr. (November 19, 1905 – November 26, 1956) was an American jazz trombonist, composer, conductor and bandleader of the big band era. He was known as the "Sentimental Gentleman of Swing" because of his smooth-toned trombone playing. His theme song was "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You".
