Protagonist, čiji lik tumači Paul Newman, je mladi bijelac koga su kao dijete oteli i poslije odgojili Apači, a koji nakon povratka svojim sunarodnjacima od njih trpi razne predrasude, uključujući suputnike u poštanskoj kočiji.
