Description. It's a Wonderful Afterlife is a British-Indian comedy film directed by Gurinder Chadha and released in 2010. The movie follows the life of Mrs. Sethi, a widowed Punjabi mother who's desperate to get her daughter married off. When her efforts to find her daughter a suitable husband fail, Mrs. Sethi resorts to more extreme measures.

There are no out-and-out song-and-dance numbers, just a few musical montages of the type that, like too much of the rest of the film, bear much more of a generic feel than a movie with this outrageous a premise should.

Mrs Sethi ( Azmi) dotes on her homely,portly daughter ( Notay),who gobbles ‘laddoos and ‘jalebis when she is not being rejected by nasty match-making ladies. Each refusal stabs the mother in the heart,and she,in turn,turns into a serial killer.
Sally Hawkins is wonderful as Roopi's best friend, who has spent six months in India with a guru, changed her name, devoted herself to astrology and numerology and gone looking for her soulmate in a manner that seems destined for disaster; it's an opportunity to joke about Western views of Indian culture which never becomes spiteful or loses its concern for a vulnerable character.
