James Neville Mason (/ ˈ m eɪ s ən /; 15 May 1909 – 27 July 1984) was an English actor. He achieved considerable success in British cinema before becoming a star in Hollywood. He was the top box-office attraction in the UK in 1944 and 1945; his British films included The Seventh Veil (1945) and The Wicked Lady (1945).
James Mason was a British actor who starred in over 100 films in England and America, but never won an Oscar. He was known for his roles in Lolita, A Star Is Born, North by Northwest, and The Verdict, among others.

Mason studied architecture before trying for a theatrical career. Following four years as a stage actor, his first film was Late Extra.
