James Robert Clapper Jr. (born March 14, 1941) is a retired lieutenant general in the United States Air Force and former Director of National Intelligence. Clapper has held several key positions within the United States Intelligence Community. He served as director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) from 1992 until 1995.

13 nov 2018 · The Honorable James R. Clapper served as the fourth and longest-tenured U.S. director of national intelligence from August 9, 2010 to January 20, 2017. In this position, Clapper led the United States Intelligence Community and served as the principal intelligence advisor to former president Barak Obama.
Lieutenant General James R. Clapper Jr. is director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Washington, D.C., and the senior uniformed intelligence officer in the Department of Defense. He is also the manager of the General Defense Intelligence Program.
