[1] Early years [ edit] Born Genevieve Lillian Hering in Royal, Nebraska, United States, [1] Southern was the granddaughter of a German pig farmer who came to the United States in 1879.
Jeri Southern was an intensely private person. The sudden rise to fame which came in the wake of her hit records “You Better Go Now” and “When I Fall In Love” must have come as a shock to the 25-year-old native of Royal, Nebraska.
