Jo Van Fleet married William Bales in 1946 and remained his wife until his death in 1990. She passed away on June 10, 1996, at the age of 81, in Queens, New York. Van Fleet was survived by her son, Michael Bales, and grandson, Arden Rogow-Bales. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contributions to the film industry.
