John Ford, nato John Martin Feeney (Cape Elizabeth, 1º febbraio 1894 – Palm Desert, 31 agosto 1973), è stato un regista e produttore cinematografico statunitense, famoso soprattutto per l'imponente produzione di film western e il record di 4 Oscar alla regia.
- Sfida Infernale. Girato nell’immediato dopoguerra, è uno dei tanti film western che hanno cercato di ricreare la leggendaria sparatoria all’OK Corrall, con i fratelli Earp e Doc Holliday da una parte, e la banda dei Clanton dall’altra, in un episodio leggendario dell’epica western.
- Il Grande Sentiero. Ford è passato alla storia come il più Hollywoodiano dei registi, soprattutto per quello che riguarda il suo rapporto con il genere western.
- Furore. Non è mai facile portare sullo schermo un romanzo, è sempre come lanciare una moneta. Ma Furore di John Ford è uno dei migliori esempi di sempre, ed è un’ennesima prova delle capacità e della maestria del regista, capace di ricreare sullo schermo (pur con qualche variazione) la tragedia della Grande Depressione descritta da John Steinbeck nel suo più celebre romanzo.
- I Sacrificati. A guerra ancora in corso, John Ford girò un film bellico, inerente una delle prime e più cocenti sconfitte subite dagli americani contro i Giapponesi, in quelle Filippine che aprirono al Sol Levante le porte del Pacifico e fecero temere ad alcuni l’imminente invasione del paese.
