John Henry Selman (November 16, 1839 – April 6, 1896) was sometimes identified as an outlaw and sometimes a working lawman of the Old West. He is best known as the man who fatally shot John Wesley Hardin in the Acme Saloon in El Paso, Texas, on August 19, 1895.

Though not the most well-known of the Old West’s infamous characters, John Henry Selman’s life was undoubtedly one of the most notorious. Sometimes referred to as “Old John” or “Uncle John,” he would variously operate in several roles, including a soldier, lawman, vigilante, and vicious outlaw.
19 feb 2019 · On April 5, 1894, he killed former Texas Ranger Baz (Bass) Outlaw during a wild brawl in Tillie Howard's brothel. Selman killed the famous gunman John Wesley Hardin on August 19, 1895, by putting three bullets in him as he rolled dice in the Acme Saloon.

20 mar 2018 · John Henry Selman was, at best, a badly flawed character. During his checkered career, he was a peace officer, vigilante, cold-blooded killer, livestock thief and a back shooter. In the guise of chasing cattle rustlers on the Texas range in 1873, Selman and John Larn murdered eight cowboys.

On August 19, 1895, John Selman murdered John Wesley Hardin at the Acme Saloon Bar in El Paso. In 1896, on the second anniversary of his friend Outlaw's death, Scarborough supposedly called Selman into the alley behind the Wigwam Saloon where two men argued and fought.
