John Stanier is an American drummer who is best known for his work with alternative metal band Helmet. He currently plays in experimental rock band Battles and has previously performed with Tomahawk and The Mark of Cain, as well as performing on several releases as a studio musician.

Battles is an American experimental rock group, founded in 2002 in New York City by Ian Williams (formerly of Don Caballero and Storm & Stress ). The current line-up is a duo, composed of guitarist/keyboardist Williams and drummer John Stanier (formerly of Helmet, Tomahawk and The Mark of Cain ).

If anything he is an anti-chameleon. That sounds suicidal for someone who lives off his drums, but for Stanier it’s more like an endless opportunity.
Are you kidding? The album retains all the brutality one would expect from Helmet, nestled within an eminently listenable context. “I consider half of this album to be a little more song-oriented than the last one, taking us a big step forward,” explains the band’s 28-year-old drummer John Stanier.
