One of five colleges in the Vermont State College higher education system, Johnson State College (JSC) is a small liberal arts institution situated in a rural part of northern Vermont. The college, like the town in which it is located, is named after American jurist William Samuel Johnson.

Founded in 1828 by John Chesamore, in 2018 it was merged with the former Lyndon State College to create Northern Vermont University . Johnson State College is one of five colleges in the Vermont State College system. Located in the heart of the Green Mountains, JSC is one hour from Vermont's largest city, Burlington, 3.5 hours from Boston and 1.5 hours from Montreal, and has access to six major ski resorts.
