Jorge Sampaio. Jorge Fernando Branco de Sampaio (ur. 18 września 1939 w Lizbonie [1], zm. 10 września 2021 w Carnaxide e Queijas [2]) – portugalski polityk, prawnik i samorządowiec, w latach 1989–1992 sekretarz generalny Partii Socjalistycznej, od 1989 do 1995 burmistrz Lizbony, w latach 1996–2006 prezydent Portugalii .
10 set 2021 · O ex-presidente português Jorge Sampaio, que fez história em 2005 com um uso extraordinário dos seus poderes para dissolver parlamentos e derrubar um governo de maioria instável, faleceu nesta sexta-feira (10) aos 81 anos. A causa da morte não foi divulgada, embora Sampaio estivesse internado desde 27 de agosto com dificuldades respiratórias.
Graduating in law, Jorge Sampaio became involved with politics as a student in the early 1960s opposing authoritarianism in Portugal and becoming a prominent figure in resistance movements. Sampaio dedicated his early years as a lawyer to the defense of political prisoners and, after the 1974 Carnation Revolution, he founded the Movimento de Esquerda Socialista, MES.
