18 mag 2022 · This book examines the philosophical and scientific achievements of Sir Kenelm Digby, a successful English diplomat, privateer and natural philosopher of the mid-1600s. Not widely remembered today, Digby is one of the most intriguing figures in the history of early modern philosophers.
Upon the incorporation of the Royal Society in 1663, Sir Kenelm was appointed one of the council. He died of stone on the anniversary of his sea-fight off Iskanderun, and was buried beside his wife in Christ Church, Newgate. Van Dyck painted several (extant) portraits of Sir Kenelm and Lady Digby, and Cornelius Janssen one of the latter.

Sir Kenelm Digby, född 11 juli 1603 i Gayhurst, död 11 juni 1665, var en engelsk diplomat, författare och naturfilosof. Digby's far var krutkonspiratören Everard Digby . Digby var 1627–1629 befälhavare för en kaparexpedition, sändes i landsflykt 1643 och blev drottning Henrietta Marias kansler i Paris och skickades på uppdrag av henne till Rom .
