Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang appears to be a spoof of film noir, Raymond Chandler conventions, specifically the narration which informs early on in no uncertain terms the viewer is just ‘watching a movie…’ complete with the movie rewinding by demand of narrator, et cetera.

Ecco, questo film è così. Un bel regalo per una serata in compagnia. "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" per i cinefili più incalliti è, già nel titolo (omonimo di una pellicola di Duccio Tessari), un omaggio costante ad altro cinema con citazioni varie - molte delle quali divertenti, tipo il "gioco dei sosia" nella scena del bar -, rimandi a vecchie pellicole e naturalmente al mestiere stesso del cinema.

The characters and plot are so promising that maybe Black should have backed off and told the story deadpan, instead of mugging so shamelessly for laughs.
