Kitsilano. 2250 West 10th Avenue. 1917-present. The first classes, with overflow students from King Edward, were held in Cecil Rhodes school in 1917, then in Hudson school in 1918, with a new building opening in January 1920. Kitsilano was named for Chief Khahtsahlano, hereditary chief of the Squamish nation.

Kitsilano High school, named for August Jack Khatsalano, an indigenous chief of the Sḵwxwú7mesh (Squamish) nation, has been educating kids in Kitsilano since 1917. When the first structures of today’s school were built at the 12th and Trafalgar location, the area was still mostly bog, with active muskrat trapping and a path through heavy brush leading to Broadway.
