Count Lajos Batthyány de Németújvár (Hungarian pronunciation: ['lɒjɔʃ 'bɒc:a:ɲi dɛ ne:mɛtu:jva:r]; Hungarian: gróf németújvári Batthyány Lajos; 10 February 1807 – 6 October 1849) was the first Prime Minister of Hungary.
Lajos Batthyány è stato un politico ungherese, fu il primo capo del governo ungherese, carica che tenne dal 17 marzo al 2 ottobre 1848. Fu condannato a morte dal generale austriaco Alfred von Windisch-Graetz, l'esecuzione fu il 6 ottobre 1849, lo stesso giorno dei 13 martiri d'Arad.
Abbandonata la carriera militare e dopo un lungo soggiorno all'estero, aderì al partito d'opposizione o di riforme, di cui divenne capo fin dalla sessione parlamentare del 1839-40, ma fu sua cura d'iniziare il movimento per le riforme, d'accordo col governo austriaco.

Count Lajos Batthyány became the first Prime Minister of Hungary during the Hungarian Revolution of 1848 and was executed in Pest in 1849. After 1945 the Batthyány family's property was largely expropriated in Hungary and other countries under Communist rule, although they retained their property in Austria.
Lajos, count Batthyány was a statesman who during the revolution of 1848 was premier of the first Hungarian parliamentary government and a martyr for Magyar independence. The son of wealthy liberal landowners whose nobility dated to 1398, Batthyány entered the military but left it in 1827 to manage.
