1980 Lake Placid - XIII Olympic Games. For the 1980 Games in Lake Placid, the Olympic Center was expanded to include two new arenas, a complete snow-making system was installed at Whiteface Mountain, the old ski jump was torn down, the existing 70- and 90-meter towers were built, and an Olympic Village was built to house the athletes.
The 1980 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XIII Olympic Winter Games, was celebrated from February 13 - 24, 1980 right here in Lake Placid! This was the second time the village hosted the Games and the magnificence of the event was unmatched.

These include the annual Lake Placid Loppet, a mass-participation cross-country skiing race held at the Mount Van Hoevenberg Olympic Sports Complex.
