Lanoe George Hawker, VC, DSO (30 December 1890 – 23 November 1916) was a British flying ace of the First World War. Having seven credited victories, he was the third pilot to receive the Victoria Cross, the highest decoration for gallantry awarded to British and Commonwealth servicemen.

14 mag 2024 · Major Lanoe Hawker VC helped to establish British control of the air above the Somme in the opening weeks of the battle, but was shot down and killed shortly after it ended. Lanoe Hawker was born in Hampshire in 1890.
Lanoe George Hawker was the first ace of the British Commonwealth. An aggressive combat pilot, his motto was " Attack Everything! " Flying a B.E.2c armed with a few bombs and hand grenades, he successfully attacked the Zeppelin shed at Gontrode in April 1915 and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order.
