After experimenting with a few lineups, Crowe hired bassist Steve Bryant, mandolinist Jimmy Gadreau, as well as former Ralph Stanley guitarist Keith Whitley. This band produced three albums: My Home Ain't In the Hall of Fame, Live in Japan, and Somewhere Between.
1 gen 1998 · The reissue of 1979’s Live In Japan, which features one of Crowe’s best backing bands, should help bring a greater appreciation for the brilliance of the banjo-playing pride of Lexington, Kentucky.
18 apr 2016 · Personnel – JD Crowe (banjo and vocals), Keith Whitley (guitar and vocals), Jimmy Gaudreau (mandolin and vocals), Steve Bryant (electric bass) and Bobby Slone (fiddle). Rounder Records released the recordings on LP, called Live in Japan, in 1987, Rounder 0159, and re-issued them on CD in 1997.
