It was then reworked for film a year later, starring Ann Harding and Basil Rathbone. The play was then televised in 1938, live on BBC Television. Basil Rathbone is Gerald Lovell, the stranger. Bruce Seton plays Ronnie Bruce, Howard’s original beau. Joan Hickson plays Emmy, the Lovells maid at the old cottage. Excellent acting by Ann Harding and Basil Rathbone. Still a bit of a hard slog for the viewer. Mrs Lovell confesses to Mr Lovell at the climax.
