Lucius Cary, 10th Viscount Falkland. Falkland was appointed in August 1840 lieutenant governor of Nova Scotia at a critical time in the province's history. A fierce, protracted political battle had just culminated in a successful demand by the assembly for the recall of the lieutenant governor, Sir Colin Campbell.
