In 1973, Williamson dropped out of college and lived "a nomadic existence" during what she calls "her wasted decade".
Kip Thorne was involved because he knew Lynda Obst, who would become a producer of the film, and the two of them conceived of the idea well before Nolan was involved. Nolan didn't seek out a scientist.
