Magdalen College School produced some of the best grammar masters of the 16th century, who were pioneers of Latin textbook teaching. In 1491, the 16 Choristers on the foundation of the college received their elementary education in the Song School, from the Informator Choristarum.
Opening Times. Magdalen College is open every day from 2 January to 19 December between 10am and dusk or 5.00pm, whichever is the earlier, with the exception of July, August and September when the college will close at 6.30pm.
Magdalen College was founded in 1458 by William Waynflete, Bishop of Winchester, and Lord Chancellor. He wanted a college on the grandest scale, and his foundation was the largest in Oxford, with 40 Fellows, 30 scholars (known at Magdalen as Demies), and a large choir for his Chapel.
