Magnus Doyle was the drummer for the British bands Pulp and The Midnight Choir and is the brother of long-term Pulp keyboardist, Candida Doyle .
He was set to break up the band and go to university himself before a practice with Russell Senior (violin, guitar, vocals) and Magnus Doyle (drums) led to the establishment of a new, more experimental, artier and noisier direction for Pulp.

Poco prima di questa scelta ci fu l'incontro di Cocker con Russell Senior (violino, chitarra, voce) e Magnus Doyle (batteria). I tre iniziarono a sviluppare una nuova direzione per il gruppo, più sperimentale e artistica. Poco dopo si aggiunsero due amici di Magnus, Peter Mansell (basso) e Tim Allcard (tastiere, sassofono, poesie).
