The Manchester Grammar School (MGS) in Manchester, England, is the largest private day school for boys in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1515 as a free grammar school next to Manchester Parish Church, it moved in 1931 to its present site at Rusholme.

The History of MGS - Manchester Grammar School. Hugh Oldham, a local boy who went on to become Bishop of Exeter, founded The Manchester Grammar School in 1515. He had the highest aspirations for MGS, and each year we fulfill his vision of being an academic school for boys of all backgrounds.

The Manchester Grammar School was founded in 1515 to promote ‘godliness and good learning’, and it has endeavoured throughout its history to remain true to these principles, whilst adapting to changing times. It is now an independent boys’ day school with around 1,600 pupils.
