Maria Donata Nanetta Paulina Gustava Erwina Wilhelmine Stein (18 October 1926 – 6 March 2014), known as Marion Stein, and subsequently by marriage as Marion Lascelles, Countess of Harewood, and later Marion Thorpe, was an Austrian-born British concert pianist.
On 29 September 1949 at St. Mark's Church, London, Lord Harewood married Marion Stein, a concert pianist and the daughter of the Viennese music publisher Erwin Stein. Because of Harewood's position in the line of succession, the marriage was subject to approval from the sovereign, under the Royal Marriages Act 1772 .
6 mar 2014 · Austrian-born British pianist Marion Stein was born in Vienna on 18 October 1926. Her father was musician and writer Erwin Stein, who was a pupil and friend of Arnold Schoenberg. She emigrated to the UK just before the onset of World War II and studied at the Royal College of Music, becoming friends with Benjamin Britten and John Amis.
