Mark Raymond King (born 20 October 1958) is an English musician. He is the lead singer and bassist of the jazz-funk band Level 42. King is known for his slap style of playing the bass guitar, with MusicRadar describing him as "the guy who put the slap in pop during the 80s".

La storia della band inizia nel 1979 quando Mark King, Mike Lindup, i fratelli Phil e Rowland “Boon” Gould si incontrano nella regione di Londra e iniziano a suonare insieme.
The longtime frontman for the British funk-pop group Level 42, Mark King was born in Cowes, England, on October 20, 1958. A onetime drummer, upon co-founding Level 42 in 1980 he moved to the bass, honing a distinctive thumb-slapping technique which became an integral element of the group’s sound.
12 ott 2022 · Mark King’s hard-hitting bass pyrotechnics with Level 42 became the driving force behind many of the band’s Top 40 hits and paved the way for slap-bass playing in mainstream 80s pop. The group notched up 20 UK Top 40 hits throughout the 80s before eventually disbanding in 1994.
