Mary of Teck (Victoria Mary Augusta Louise Olga Pauline Claudine Agnes; 26 May 1867 – 24 March 1953) was Queen of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and Empress of India, from 6 May 1910 until 29 January 1936 as the wife of King-Emperor George V.

Maria von Teck wurde 1867 als erstes Kind des deutschstämmigen Herzogs Franz von Teck und dessen Ehefrau Mary Adelaide von Cambridge im Londoner Kensington Palace geboren. Ihre Mutter war eine Enkelin Georgs III. und Cousine der regierenden britischen Königin Victoria , womit Mary einer nicht regierenden Nebenlinie des britischen Königshauses entstammte.
In 1891, Mary Adelaide was keen for her daughter, Princess Victoria Mary of Teck (known as "May"), to marry one of the sons of the Prince of Wales, the future Edward VII. At the same time, Queen Victoria wanted a British-born bride for the future king, though of course one of royal rank and ancestry, and Mary Adelaide's daughter fulfilled the rank criteria.
