In the mid-19th century, Mattie Blaylock left her farm life in Iowa behind and eloped with Wyatt Earp, but ended up abandoned by the lawman after the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
Wyatt was in a relationship with Mattie Blaylock, a former prostitute. Earp named a mining claim he filed on February 16, 1880 "Mattie Blaylock". [101] Modern researchers have found Blaylock listed as Earp's wife in the June 1880 census.

Mattie Blaylock. Celia Ann “Mattie” Blaylock was involved with Wyatt Earp after the death of his first wife, and is often termed as Wyatt’s “common law” wife. Born in Wisconsin in 1850, Mattie was raised in Fairfax, Iowa until she ran away from home at the age of 16.
1 lug 2007 · Mattie’s body lies in the historic Pinal City Cemetery near the town of Superior, Arizona, a few miles east of Apache Junction (see map below). Her grave is the first one on the right at the 8×8 upright post. A plaque should designate her grave, but people sometimes steal it to take home as a souvenir.
1 feb 2024 · Some time after Wyatt met Celie (Mattie) Blaylock, the couple lived for a few weeks with Newton Earp and his wife. There is no record of the marriage of Celie and Wyatt but Celie’s letters to her sister Sarah over the course of a fifteen-year period use “Mrs. Wyatt Earp” within the return address.
