Wyatt was in a relationship with Mattie Blaylock, a former prostitute. Earp named a mining claim he filed on February 16, 1880 "Mattie Blaylock". Modern researchers have found Blaylock listed as Earp's wife in the June 1880 census.

Mattie Blaylock was a prostitute and the common-law wife of Wyatt Earp, who died in 1888 from laudanum addiction. She met him in 1873 in Dodge City and worked with him in Tombstone, Arizona. She was involved with him after his first wife's death and before his second wife's birth.
Earp named a mining claim he filed on February 16, 1880 "Mattie Blaylock." While Blaylock was living with Earp, she suffered from severe headaches and became addicted to laudanum, an opiate-based pain reliever widely available at the time.
1 feb 2024 · Some time after Wyatt met Celie (Mattie) Blaylock, the couple lived for a few weeks with Newton Earp and his wife. There is no record of the marriage of Celie and Wyatt but Celie’s letters to her sister Sarah over the course of a fifteen-year period use “Mrs. Wyatt Earp” within the return address.
