Biography. Maurice Sendak (1928-2012) was born on June 10, 1928, in Brooklyn, New York, to Jewish immigrant parents from Poland. A largely self-taught artist, Sendak illustrated over one hundred-fifty books during his sixty-year career. The books he wrote as well as illustrated include Kenny’s Window, Very Far Away, The Sign on Rosie’s Door

Sendak was the son of Polish immigrants and received his formal art training at the Art Students League of New York.

About Maurice. Maurice Sendak’s books have sold over 50 million copies and have been translated into more than 40 languages. He received the 1964 Caldecott Medal for Where the Wild Things Are and is the creator of such classics as In the Night Kitchen, Outside Over There, Higglety Pigglety Pop!, and Nutshell Library.

Nato a Brooklyn nel 1928, vince la Caldecott Medal nel 1964 con Nel paese dei mostri selvaggi – ora edito in Italia da Adelphi. Nel 1970 gli viene assegnata l’Hans Christian Andersen Award per l’illustrazione, e nel 2003 l’Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.
