Max von Sydow (/ f ɒ n ˈ s iː d oʊ /, Swedish: [fɔn ˈsy̌ːdɔv] ⓘ; born Carl Adolf von Sydow; 10 April 1929 – 8 March 2020) was a Swedish-French actor. He had a 70-year career in European and American cinema, television, and theatre, appearing in more than 150 films and several television series in multiple languages.
Von Sydow started his cinematic career in his native country in 1949 and two of his most memorable roles include Knight Antonius Block in The Seventh Seal (1957), the first of his eleven films with director Ingmar Bergman, and the film that includes the iconic scenes in which he plays chess with Death; [1] and as Martin in Through a Glass Darkly...
