Mollison was married to Ellen Mayhew. They had one son and two daughters, [13] [1] one of whom pre-deceased him. [1] [6] His wife died in 1917, and he provided the endowment for the Mayhew Prize , a mathematics prize awarded by the University of Cambridge, in her honour. [6]
In 1936, Hoyle shared the Mayhew Prize with George Stanley Rushbrooke. Career [ edit ] In late 1940, Hoyle left Cambridge to go to Portsmouth to work for the Admiralty on radar research, for example devising a method to get the altitude of incoming aeroplanes.
In addition to the grades, there are six associated prizes. In 2011 Mayhew was the first illustrator selected to appear on the BBC's Authors Live series for Scottish Book Trust. In 2019 he was long-listed for the Kate Greenaway Prize for his work on Mrs Noah's Pockets. Mr's Noah's Garden was also nominated for the same award in 2020.
