La megafauna (greco antico Megas "grandi" + latino fauna "animale") è un termine collettivo per descrivere gli animali di grandi dimensioni, esistenti o esistiti. In genere, per "megafauna" si intende un animale dal peso superiore alle 100 lb , spesso arrotondato nel sistema metrico a 40-45 kg .
