Her resignation comes weeks after the Socialist announced to her party that she would not seek a renewal of her position as speaker of Congress.
Meritxell Batet Lamaña (Barcelona, Spain – 1973) is a Spanish jurist and politician, professor of constitutional law at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and deputy first secretary of the Socialist Party of Catalonia (PSC). With a degree in Law from the University of Barcelona, she has played several prominent roles in the political arena.
