Hermann Hahn: Mestwin I of Pomerania, about 1620 Seal of Mestvinus dux Pomeraniae. Mestwin I (Polish: Mściwoj I gdański or Mszczuj I, Kashubian: Mscëwòj I; c. 1160 – 1/2 May 1219 or 1220) was Prince of Pomerelia (styled himself as princeps Pomoranorum) from about 1205 until his death.

Mestwin è il figlio di Subisław I st Pomeranian. Dopo la morte di suo fratello Sambor I st della Pomerania, fu nominato governatore di Pomerania Orientale da Ladislao III gambe snelle. The lands of Pomerania were firstly ruled by local tribes, who settled in Pomerania around the 10th and 11th centuries.
The Duchy resulted from the partition of Świętobor, Duke of Pomerania, in which his son Wartislaw inherited the lands that would become in fact known as Pomerania.
