Despite producing 32 world records and a host of memorable performances, the 1976 Games drew more attention to the apparent problems of the Olympic movement.

The Games of the XXI Olympiad were celebrated in Montréal, Québec from July 17 to August 1, 1976. These were the first Olympic Games held in Canada, and the only summer Olympic Games held in Canada to date. 92 nations participated in 196 events across 21 sports, and Canada finished in 27th place overall with five silver medals and six bronze medals.
