Randy Brecker est le frère de Michael Brecker (né en 1949). Ils ont dirigé ensemble Dreams et les Brecker Brothers, un groupe de jazz funk fusion qui a enregistré plusieurs albums dans les années 1970. Après la séparation des Brecker Brothers en 1982, Randy a enregistré et fait des tournées avec le big band Word Of Mouth de Jaco Pastorius.

Michael Leonard Brecker (March 29, 1949 – January 13, 2007), nicknamed Dr. Sax, was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. He was awarded 15 Grammy Awards as a performer and composer, received an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music in 2004, [3] and was inducted into the DownBeat Jazz Hall of Fame in 2007.

The opener for RandyPOP! is "The New Frontier" by Donald Fagen, representing the work Randy and Michael Brecker did with Steely Dan, which Fagen co-led with Walter Becker.
