Founded in 1958, many of Australia's leading actors and directors trained at NIDA, including Cate Blanchett, Sarah Snook, Mel Gibson, Judy Davis and Baz Luhrmann .

Consider NIDA’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) if you want to undertake an in-depth exploration of the techniques and methods required to develop a career in your chosen discipline.
NIDA welcomes applications from international students for enrolment in Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts courses. International applicants are required to attend an audition or interview in Australia, although for non-Acting courses a video interview option may be available.
NIDA is founded as the first professional theatre training school in Australia, being originally established in the grounds of the University of New South Wales with the support of then Vice-Chancellor (later Sir) Philip Baxter.
