The New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture is located in New York’s Greenwich Village, in a complex of structures assembled over an extended period of time by the American sculptor and art collector Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney (1875–1942).
Our aim is to reveal to the entering student appropriate questions about drawing, painting and sculpture and to encourage them to work hard and think rigorously at all times, enabling them to construct an ethical and philosophical framework for their life’s work.

The New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture shares its heritage with the Whitney Museum of Art, as both were spearheaded by sculptor and arts patron Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney. The gallery here mounts shows from October through June consisting largely of selections from the work of faculty and students.
