Newnham College, Cambridge. Coordinates: 52.1995°N 0.1077°E. Newnham College is a women's constituent college of the University of Cambridge. [4] The college was founded in 1871 by a group organising Lectures for Ladies, members of which included philosopher Henry Sidgwick and suffragist campaigner Millicent Garrett Fawcett.

They argued that women were every bit as intelligent as men, and that women, too, deserved a first class education. With determination and courage, they created the Cambridge college we see today. This short history of women’s education in Britain explores the challenges our founders faced.
